Sport and Society

Terms and conditions

Draft terms and conditions — last updated 15 October 2026. These are not yet the final conditions of use.

1. Who operates this service

Sport and Society is an academic journal platform operated by “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași, through its journal editorial team. Journal correspondence address: Str. Toma Cozma nr. 3, Iași 700554, Romania. Contact: office@sportsisocietate.ro.

These terms concern the public website and the author, reviewer, editor and auditor workspaces. Journal-specific submission instructions and any separately agreed publication agreement also apply to the relevant editorial activity. If they conflict, contact the editorial team before proceeding.

2. Accounts and responsible use

Use accurate account information, keep login details and email links private, and tell the editorial team if you suspect unauthorised access. Accounts are for the person authorised to use them; editorial and auditing permissions must not be shared. Update your account email when it changes. Do not access another person’s workspace, attempt to bypass access controls, upload malicious files, impersonate someone, scrape private material or disrupt the service.

The platform is intended for academic and professional journal activity. It is not a service directed at children. Contact the editorial team before submitting material involving a person who cannot provide the necessary permissions themselves.

3. Manuscript submissions

The submitting author must have authority to act for all co-authors and obtain necessary permissions for text, figures, data and other third-party material. Provide accurate authorship, affiliations, conflicts-of-interest disclosures and research ethics information. Do not upload identifiable participant data or sensitive personal information unless the journal has expressly agreed a suitable lawful and secure process. Remove identifying information from files intended for anonymous review, including file metadata where possible.

Submission does not guarantee review, acceptance, publication, a particular decision or a particular response time. The editorial team may request revisions, decline material or investigate suspected misconduct under the journal’s editorial policies. Contact the editorial team to request withdrawal; deleting an account does not automatically withdraw a submission or remove a published article.

4. Peer review and confidentiality

Unpublished manuscripts, reviewer reports, invitations and internal correspondence are confidential. Reviewers must disclose conflicts of interest and must not use unpublished work for their own benefit or disclose it without authorisation. Do not upload confidential manuscripts or reviews to external AI or other third-party services without the journal’s explicit permission and an appropriate data-protection arrangement.

The workflow is designed for anonymised peer review. Reviewers must avoid identifying themselves in author-facing comments and uploaded files. Editors decide which feedback and files can be shared with authors. Confidential comments addressed to the editor are not intended for the author. Anonymisation reduces disclosure but cannot guarantee that identity will never be inferred from content or document metadata.

5. Copyright and reuse

Submitting material does not itself transfer copyright. The author or other existing rights holder retains the rights they hold unless a separate publication agreement provides otherwise. By submitting, you authorise the journal to host and process the material and share it with authorised editorial participants solely for submission handling, review and related journal administration. Publication rights and the applicable public licence must be agreed separately before publication.

For articles carrying the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivs 3.0 Unported (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0) notice, reuse is governed by that licence. These terms do not retroactively license or relicense any work: the notice and rights applicable to the individual article govern. Contact the editorial team if you need clarification before reusing an article. Open access does not mean unrestricted reuse. Third-party material may have separate conditions; statutory exceptions remain unaffected.

Website branding, software and non-article material are not automatically covered by an article’s Creative Commons licence. Do not imply endorsement by the journal, its authors or the University.

6. Published records, corrections and complaints

Report suspected errors, inappropriate content, privacy issues or copyright concerns to the editorial team, identifying the article and the concern. The journal may correct, update, retract or restrict material where justified, with appropriate attention to the scholarly record and applicable law. No automatic deletion or replacement of a published record is promised. Author biographical and affiliation details may be updated; updates must not misrepresent the research or its provenance.

7. Availability, links and limitations

We aim to keep the service accessible, but maintenance, provider outages and security incidents can interrupt access. Keep your own copies of submissions and important correspondence. External websites are governed by their own terms. Academic content is supplied for information and research, not individual medical, legal or other professional advice; views expressed by authors do not necessarily represent the journal or University.

Any limitation of liability applies only to the extent permitted by applicable law. Nothing in these terms excludes mandatory rights or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud or intentional wrongdoing. No blanket waiver of data-protection or intellectual-property rights is intended.

8. Restrictions and account closure

The editorial team may restrict access when reasonably necessary to protect security, investigate misuse or meet a legal obligation, and should explain the reason where lawful and practicable. You may request account closure through the contact address. Editorial records and published research may need to be retained despite account closure, as explained in the privacy policy. Contact the team if you wish to challenge a restriction or editorial handling decision.

9. Changes and applicable law

Material changes to these terms will be dated and communicated appropriately before they take effect. They will not silently alter an existing publication licence or remove mandatory rights. Romanian law and applicable European Union law apply, without depriving users of mandatory protections or lawful routes of complaint and redress. You can contact the editorial team to seek a practical resolution of a concern; this does not restrict your right to use other lawful routes of redress.
