Cookies policy

1. What cookies and browser storage do

Cookies are small values stored by your browser and sent with relevant website requests. Local storage and session storage keep values in your browser for related purposes. This policy covers those technologies as well as cookies. Our current configuration does not load analytics, advertising, social-media tracking or optional embedded media.

2. Essential authentication storage

When you log in or use an account email link, essential browser storage provided through Supabase keeps you logged in and supports authorised access to manuscripts and reviews. It remains until you log out, the session ends or is replaced, or you clear your browser data. Individual login credentials used by the service expire and may be renewed while you remain logged in. Email confirmation may also use temporary values. These are used for the account service you request, not advertising.

Use a shared device with care and log out when finished. Clearing browser data on one device does not necessarily log you out on your other devices.

3. Short-lived workflow storage

Temporary storage helps you complete a password reset and displays confirmation after a review is submitted. Password-reset storage contains an account identifier, not your password. It is cleared when the reset is completed, the link is invalid or you log out, and is limited to the browser tab’s session. The review confirmation is removed once it has been displayed. Blocking storage may prevent these conveniences from working.

4. Hosting and third-party services

Our hosting and account services may use essential security and traffic-management cookies to protect the service and respond to abusive traffic. Their duration depends on the security feature in use. Cloudflare explains the cookies associated with its services in its cookie reference. You can contact the journal team for further information about storage used when you access the website.

Public fonts and application software are hosted with this website. The contact form, account registration, login and password-reset requests additionally load Cloudflare Turnstile to help detect automated misuse. Account Settings also uses this check when verifying a password for an email change or requesting a password-change link. This security check processes technical browser and network information; it is not used by this website for advertising or marketing. See Cloudflare’s Turnstile Privacy Addendum. Opening an external link takes you to a separate service with its own policies. No third-party video or map is automatically embedded in the current public pages.

5. Your choices

Because the site uses only essential functionality, we do not ask you to consent to analytics or marketing that is not present. You can clear site data or change browser settings, but blocking account storage may prevent login or other requested features. You can read public pages without logging in.

If optional tracking is introduced, you will be offered a separate choice where consent is required.
